Discussion:
Can't add reference in VS2008

Has anyone else encountered this?

I loaded up VS2008, and started to port some projects. I took the time to
do some "housecleaning" at the same time, which meant I had to rearrange some
references. When I went to "Add Reference" in a project, VS2008 crashed.

Thinking it might be something odd in my project, I simply created a brand
new Windows Forms Application, selected "Add reference" and once again,
crash. ("Visual Studio 2008 has encountered a problem and needs to shut down"
sort of crash)

Obviously, I need to be able to add references. I'm sure that other people
must be able to do so, but for me, it just crashes. Any advice on how to fix
this?

I just checked three machines with VS 2008 installed. All three had no
issues with Project->Add Reference...

I'd suggest a repair install.

I am getting this too. I was using vs 2008 standard just fine for over a year before this just started happening. I also have uninstalled vs and service packs and reinstalled. Still get the error.
